The answer is “I don’t see myself as reticent to simply follow channel guidelines.”
I’ve offered a way forward that Mark doesn’t seem to be interested in, where we’d talk about and agree with what went wrong, so it could be avoided in the future.
I don’t have the impression I’m a highly problematic member of the community. As I’ve said… a few times now… I got banned (temporarily?) without a warning, and have remained banned for reasons that can’t/won’t be explained, and now can’t get reinstated without agreeing to terms that can’t/won’t be explained.
It’s all a bit kafkaesque. And… do you think this is fair?
I’ve said I’m prepared to agree… if I can get an explanation of what I’m being asked to agree to.
Here’s why.
(1) Mark wants me to lay off the personal attacks
Okay… can I look to guidance from Mark as a Centurion, and the behaviour of other mods, and the rules as written, for guidance in that? What does ‘personal attacks’ mean? I can think of Mods who have personal attack memes to target individual posters on the channel. Surely those aren’t personal attacks I’m being asked to avoid.
And, if that is what I’m being asked to do: why was I banned to begin with? There seems to be a great reticence to have any kind of acknowledgment… that… maybe Mark made a decision that should be reconsidered when it comes to “what constitutes an accusation of pedophilia?” A decision that… by the way… Loki appears to have since overruled. But no one’s willing to write that out except me.
Am I being asked to hold myself to a higher standard than the mods hold themselves and reinforce amongst themselves? Why not write that out of it’s the case?
(2) Mark wants me to lay off mod-bashing.
Well… what’s meant by this? Surely the reason I was banned was because I attacked a community member… not because I attacked a mod in specific. If I had written what I did… about Redleg or Deco… (Good community members! Members who frequently drive me crazy… they’re good at it! but not mods)… Am I being told the consequences wouldn’t have been as severe? I hope not! (I would hope the standard of insinuating anyone, or any group of people are actively promoting pedophilia, where criminal charges aren’t being discussed, would be reinforced the same way on our channel: no matter who is targeted.)
Do I have a history of mod-bashing that needs to be reviewed? I don’t think so, but I’m open to discussing it. I feel like I’m respectful of Mods on the forum, in their capacity as mods, and only bring grievances here. Why is there a concern this behaviour would change? Am I being told I can’t bring grievances about unfair moderating, or moderators ignoring rules to the Den?
Is it worth noting: I haven’t complained about any decisions Obey made in his capacity as a mod? Where I have complained… it’s because mod comments can’t be flagged, so I have to complain about them. As I’ve mentioned… the only tool I have here is a soapbox.
Can I ask: if I’m accused of mod-bashing… why is Mark serving as my judge in this case? If I’m “mod-bashing” anyone, surely it’s him? In that case… is he really a neutral arbiter for me?
I mean… I didn’t even get a chance to reply to your point in the conversation (which was a reasonable one…) yesterday, and you’re a centurion. It got shut down, because Mark didn’t want to explain the terms of my release… to any degree. Is it because Mark’s prior ruling is part of what got me here?
As I said: I’d like to agree. I’m prepared to agree. But I want to know what I’m being asked to agree to. And it would be helpful to have some acknowledgment that I didn’t hatch this egg on my own, and the circumstances that led to where we are, are being looked at, and aren’t likely to repeat themselves. (This may not be fair… you said yesterday “this is being discussed by centurions.” I upvoted you! I figured a resolution was coming. Then Mark decided there could be no agreement or discussion.)
Otherwise, it seems like I’m being set up for failure, because no one’s willing to talk about how I went wrong, and how I could avoid going wrong again. And, fundamentally, is this all fair for non-moderating members of our community?
