Skirting insult rules through generalizations

Posted on 2020-04-282020-04-29 by Best in Moderation

Hey folks,

So IMO forums are a place where people lose their shit more times than not, but rules are put in place to make it less unpleasant for those who tire of seeing it overwhelm each article posted. then we have people who enjoy skirting those rules like a toddler waving a finger in a siblings face and saying “I’m not touching you!”

Recently I’ve seen an uptick in that sort of thing, including this exchange between a CM and Mod:

Tobin Witaker: “…Are you really going to play dumb like that?…”

Texas Patriot: reply

TW: “…OMG, I see I am going to have to make this redneck stupid.”

TP: reply

TW: “I would really love to fuck with dumb ass haters some more but I have some things to do…”

Find it here: http://disq.us/p/28x6xq5

Honestly, it’s easy to see he is insulting TP in each reply, but is not being upbraided because he floats it as an insult to a large group of people in general as well (which is, somehow, LESS bad?).

Would you consider this a bit and determine if this is ok? If I was to call someone dumb, redneck stupid and a dumbass I think I’d see myself booted fairly quickly…

Thanks and hope you’re staying healthy!
