Advocating violence is not allowed on the channel and will be removed. Threats of harm towards anyone will be dealt with severely up to and including reporting to the authorities. This includes the posting of images of body parts or dead bodies.
Here is the rule, as stated in the community guidelines. What I am curious about, is who counts as the “anyone” listed? Is it anyone in the entire world, whether they are a poster here or not, or does this only refer to threats against posters? That is, if the post is obviously hyperbole, and is just an angry rant against someone who commits a crime so heinous that it gets a poster’s blood boiling, and is clearly not a legitimate threat, is that acceptable, because it’s fairly obvious that not only is it not directed at any BN&R poster, but it’s also not a credible threat to begin with?
Right now, there is a thread about an Indian man who raped a 5-year old girl. There are lots of comments regarding giving him the death penalty and so on. Ok, cool. This isn’t a complaint at all about what others are writing. But, I am the father of a 5-year old girl myself. When I read stories like this, it genuinely upsets me. As a father, my protective instinct kicks in, and I very much want to write a comment about how if something like that happened to my own little girl, I’d give serious thought to killing whoever did it. It’s a feeling I am sure that many others would share in…But, it could be construed as a threat of violence, even if it’s against a so-far non-existent person.
For threads like this, where there is an obvious heinous act guaranteed to make many posters angry for real, and not just “internet” angry, how much leeway do we posters actually have in our comments, before we violate that rule, when it comes to stories like this, where it’s probably clear and understood by all, that there is no actual threat to commit violence going on, just anger?
