What is advocating violence?

Posted on 2020-09-042020-09-04 by Best in Moderation

“Advocating violence is not allowed on the channel and will be removed. Threats of harm towards anyone will be dealt with severely up to and including reporting to the authorities.”

And yet for the last week we’ve seen poster after poster encourage and cheer on police shooting people, far right wing activists shooting people, and comments made like this one where a mod advocates sending a murderer in to deal with unruly protesters:

“Needs more Kyle”

So at this point it is very unclear to me what this rule of don’t advocate violence means. Is it just to other posters? Is it ok to advocate killing Trump voters? Is it ok to advocate killing conservative politicians? Is it ok to advocate killing police officers? Or is it just ok to advocate killing protesters, people with petty crimes or just those who’s political opinions are not popular?

I think we’ve gone very far over a line, and might not even recognize it anymore.

Anyway, I hope this is some food for thought on what we mean when we talk about advocating violence, because this forum has shifted heavily on that in the last week and not, IMO, in a good direction.
